THERAPY

The Healing Journey

I opened the doors of my private psychotherapy practice, The Healing Journey, in Crescent City, California in August 1995.

Providing psychotherapy in this small, rural community, I have welcomed clients of all ages – children, teens, adults and elders - and actively sought training across a broad spectrum of mental health issues.

The therapy models which have had the most influence on my work are: Jungian therapy, somatic psychotherapy, trauma recovery, EMDR, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Though early on I realized that working with emotions was a common element in all of these approaches, it was not until I discovered DBT in 1998, that I developed my vision for the importance of developing a healthy relationship with one’s emotions.

DBT, with its focus on providing emotion-based skills in the areas of mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness, highlighted, for me, the value of developing a healthy relationship with one’s emotions.  Since then, I have turned towards providing more and more psychoeducation focused on the acquisition of these skills, through leading DBT Skills Training groups, creating and developing emotion education groups for children, leading DBT trainings for psychotherapists, and providing individual DBT skills education training.

In 2020, in response to the mental health crisis facing children during the COVID 19 pandemic, my appreciation for the life-long value of learning skills and my passion for working with children led me to create this website and to offer emotion education trainings to parents, teachers, and juvenile justice system personnel.

At the Healing Journey, I provide individual outpatient therapy sessions for children, teens, adults and elders in addition to working with couples and groups.
