A Note from Emotion Wise Founder Cheryl Simons

I created “Maimou’s Island: The Active Feelings Game” because I wanted an emotion-based play therapy game that encouraged the physical expression of emotions. When I first developed it, 25 years ago, although there were many play therapy games, I didn’t see an active feelings game anywhere! I was surprised to discover a few years ago, that this was still true.

Emotions start in the body. And it is equally true that it is through our bodies that we regulate emotional states. In order to gain emotional mastery, develop healthy social skills, learn to make wise choices in response to our emotions, it is essential to learn about the physical experience of emotions.

To recognize how we experience specific emotions in our bodies, how our bodies innately want to express feelings, what actions help us regulate our emotional states, what emotional expression looks like in those around us: these emotion-centered skills are all building blocks of emotional intelligence.

“Maimou’s Island: The Active Feelings Game” has elements which teach about these emotion-based skills, giving young people a fun and creative avenue for learning the ABCs of emotional intelligence.

Look around: I don’t think you’ll find a game like it anywhere else!
